パーミエーターはパーミエーションチューブ、ディフュージョンチューブを発生源とする校正用ガス調製装置です。パーミエーションチューブ、ディフュージョンチューブを恒温に保持すると、浸透拡散する量、蒸発拡散する量が一定となります。したがって、両チューブともそれを恒温に保持し、そこに空気・窒素などの希釈ガスを定流量送れば、微量濃度の校正用ガスが連続的に発生します。この調製方法は、重量法によって求めた浸透速度（パーミエーションチューブ）、拡散速度（ディフュージョンチューブ）と希釈ガス量との基礎的な物理量の測定を根拠としてガス濃度を決定するため信頼性が高くなります。
